RUINS PART I: redux. realms. regards. is a 3-hour performative encounter between Liz Rosenfeld and an*dre neely, which follows their continuous collaboration entitled “RUINS” — an open and multidisciplinary project which combines research, film, performance and writing to explore the collapse in queer political and social resistance. This new iteration, expanded from PART I, will focus on the choreographic language of the Handshake, highlighting how, historically, queer persons found affinity and built non-verbal discourses, referencing cruising stories and bodily codifications essential for the relations of desire.
The handshake appeals to secretive forces, in a broad analysis and a counter position to the position of Visibility = Liberation which queer rights and social movements in general seem to have accepted uncritically. In this manner, these choreographies of handshakes are constructed through the scores we develop with other queer people, performing them between us, as conduits for a lot of bodies, thereby exploring the power of transference between bodies that depend on others.
