“Journey to Lisbon” is a theatre performance that seeks to investigate, through a fictional story, the
artists´ families´ past and their connections to Portugal´s recent history, based on an original text by
Isabela Figueiredo in dialogue with the album “Diz À Mãe Que Está Tudo Bem” by the musician Silk
Nobre.
In this performance-concert, just as in the work by Isabela Figueiredo and Silk Nobre, the family
appears as a nuclear context from which to approach sociopolitical tensions, such as colonialism,
racism and the experiences of the “retornados” (settler returnees to Portugal, from the African
colonies, after the 1975 revolution).
The arrival in Lisbon of an older generation, to visit their children, is the departure point for
developing the script along two fundamental discursive lines: family history and generational
conflicts; investigating family dynamics, the silence, the difficulties in communicating and the
passage of time.
